TPD for i2C: Roll-out in Aizawl (Mizoram), 18 April – 5 May 2016
The first roll-out of CLIx TPD (Teacher Professional Development) for i2C (invitation to CLIx) took place in the computer labs of state govt high schools and higher secondary schools in Aizawl, Mizoram.Over the roughly three-week period, four batches of teachers and one batch of field technologists and support persons went through an orientation. The aim was to prepare the ground for a roll-out for students in 30 schools, and the formation of a community of practice (COP) for teachers in the first year of this roll-out.The teachers’ batches consisted of learners at various levels of digital proficiency – new users, professional users and creative users. Many first-time users acquired digital literacy through an engagement with the content designed for students. There were both homogeneous and heterogeneous peer learning groups, and it was found that the heterogeneous groups worked better.

Mizoram’s learning labs were found to be in a state of readiness. In review meetings, key visitors from Tata Trusts, along with internal observers, shared suggestions about enhancing the connected learning experience during the roll-out in the other CLIx states. More than 150 teachers from 30 schools were trained in i2C across four batches from the Maths, Science, and English domains.A head teachers’ meeting with partners resulted in a COP (named ‘CLIx Zirtirtute’ – the word for teachers in Mizo) being initiated, with a membership of over 120. Participants will engage in continuing discussions regarding teacher professional development.These interactions were supported by the Directorate of Education, Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA), North East Initiative Development Agency (NEIDA) and Mizoram University (MZU).
